All Types! All Kids (K-5th Grade) are welcome in Cub Scouts!
Everyone belongs in Cub Scouts. The Cub Scout culture is one of belonging, where everyone is respected and valued. In both Cub Scouts and Scouting, those of all backgrounds and abilities are welcome! Did you know that each Cub Scout pack is different? This means that a child can visit different packs and pick one that they feel most comfortable in. All children and youth are welcome in Cub Scouts, Scouts BSA, and Venturing! Cub Scouts is for those in Kindergarten – 5th grade, while Scouts BSA is for those who are 11 -17 years old. Venturing is a special program for those who are 14-20 years old who want to focus more heavily on outdoor excursions and adventures.

We’re Already So Busy!
Will my child have to quit sports, school clubs, etc?
No Way!
Unlike other extracurricular activities, Cub Scouts is designed to fit your busy family schedule. Is it baseball or basketball season? No Problem! We encourage our Scouts to do other things outside of Scouting, like join sports team, school clubs, or get involved in their church or community. Cub Scouts follows the school calendar and because you determine the pace and involvement of your child, Cub Scouting is flexible and can easily be integrated into your forever changing life style.

Yes! – But not all the time or at every activity. As a Cub Scout you’ll get your very own uniform! Uniforms help to create a sense of belonging, identification, and commitment to Scouting for youth and adults. It’s also where you get to display many of the awards and patches you earn in Scouting.
Den meetings are fun, provide time for connection (making friends), learning, and advancing within the program and handbook.
Yes! Most Cub Scout Packs have at least one campout in the fall and spring. Additional opportunities and events are hosted by our local Scouting council at our camps and other locations that are available for families and Cub Scout Packs to participate in. Check out upcoming events and activities.
Cub Scouts are organized by age/grade to form dens. Each of these dens have a leader who helps the Cubs earn their rank for the year. These ranks are: Lion, Tiger, Wolf, Bear, Webelos, Arrow of Light. Each of these ranks and awards in Cub Scouting has its own requirements. As you advance through the ranks, the requirements get more challenging, to match the new skills and abilities you learn as you get older. The dens usually meet on average twice a month and then all the Dens come together once a month for a “Pack Meeting”. The Pack meeting is meant to recognize the Cub Scouts for their achievements, have a fun activity to participate in as a Pack, and to share important updates with parents.

Is There Financial Assistance?
Scouting has an annual membership/insurance fee that is less than $10 per month. For a new Cub Scout, the cost is $110 per year. Individual packs might have some small additional costs or dues to cover events, activities, or other necessary items for program. The character development, leadership, and life skills that are taught in Cub Scouting are too important for money to stand in the way of a child participating. This is why we offer financial assistance, and we have never denied anyone participation due to funding.
This form can be filled out electronically and emailed to David Sikes, Director of Field Services/COO, at david.sikes@scouting.org
If you are a Kentucky WellCare or United Healthcare Medicaid member, they will pay for your registration costs. Please indicate that on the form above.
Thank you to WellCare and United Heathcare for assuring their members benefit from the adventures Scouting has to offer!

We have created a Parent Guide to help explain the Cub Scouting program to new parents. This is updated every fall to coincide with our recruitment campaign. Additional information can be found on the National Website and you can also call the council office at (502) 361-2624 to speak with a local representative to assist you.

When you join Cub Scouts, you’ll pick a pack or group of other Cub Scouts to join. Think of this group as your “family group”. Your pack is who you’ll meet with (weekly or bi-weekly), do events with, travel with, and make friends with! Packs are led by Cub Scout parents and volunteer leaders who work with kids and their families to deliver the Cub Scout Program. Cub Scout leaders support each Cub Scout, but also each Scout’s family. Each pack’s volunteers take an active part in helping to strengthen families and their kids by providing a fun-filled, worthwhile program that teaches values.
