LBL Conservation Day Campout 2017, April 21-23, Nickell Branch, LBL

Standing request for units to participate, help in the Saturday afternoon instruction, and reserve your spots. This is a free event open outside of what your unit decides to charge. We hope to have some adult leader training, get camping nights for all, have joint pack/troop activities, get conservation and leadership requirements completed, and move along both Cub Scout and Boy Scout advancement trail. Please contact John Baker at 270-559-5630 or Baker98@comcast.net, if you are going to attend and/or can help support.

OKPIK (2018) Northern Tier (June 2017). We did not get a dog sled crew in the OKPIK lottery. John will try again next year. They have openings for other programs (cabin stay, sampler) if you are interested. Also, last call for anybody interested in an Atikoken canoe voyage June 13-20 of 2017 before John has to release the reservation.

Cub Scout Day Camp (Four Rivers District). July 5-8 at Noble Park in Paducah- Cost is $100. Camp will include BB's, Archery, Slingshots, Fishing, Swimming, and other "The Cubs Awaken" (Star Wars Theme). Contact Camp Director, Jason Hines, jasonhky26@gmail.com

Cub Scout and Webelos Resident Camp- Webelos attend July 20-23 for $165 while Cubs are a day shorter at July 21-23 for $135.

2017 National Jamboree July 19-28 at the Summit- This is a once in a lifetime event attending as a youth. The best age range I believe is 12-15 years old, especially if your scout is not old or strong enough to attend High Adventure Camp. John and my son had a great time at the 2013 National Jamboree. I even enjoyed it while working staff there. If interested please contact Jennifer Washburn (jennifer@ikids-care.com or 270-556-0912).

Eclipse Day 2017, August 18-21, Pfeffer Scout Reservation, Camp Roy C. Manchester

The Western Service Area will be the prime area on the globe for observing a total solar eclipse on Monday, Aug 21st. Some schools have scheduled this as a day off. Others did not, but "Alternate Education" forms can be filed at schools. The Louisville Astronomical Society will be hosting teach Astronomy MB for Boy scouts, STEM/NOVA credit for Cub scouts, and hosting a night time star party. Details such as cost and camp activities are still being figured out. We will be giving preferential treatment to district and council units but opening up reservations to out-of-council units probably in May. Registration will be through Tentaroo. Be looking for a kick-off flyer soon.

Fall Family Campout 2017, September 15-17, Pfeffer Scout Reservation, Camp Roy C. Manchester

Activities will be announced such as: Shooting Sports (BB’s, Archery, Slingshots), Fishing, Cooking, etc… Contact Eric Jones, Event Chair and Cubmaster of Pack 2020, cubmasterpack2020@gmail.com for more info.

That covers our events coming up soon, more to come in the future.

Campmasters

The Campmaster program for Pfeffer Scout Reservation, Camp Roy C. Manchester is in the works. Volunteer leaders are trained to serve as Campmasters for a weekend to coordinate for units to have access and use of the camp facility. The Campmaster is a point of contact for that unit or units. It is required to have two Campmasters on site those weekends. The Council is in the process of refurbishing a lodge for Campmasters at camp. Campmasters have to be certified in CPR/First Aid/AED. If you are interested in being a Campmaster please contact me. So I can schedule training.

Unit Commissioners

We need Unit Commissioners to help serve units within our district. Commissioners are friends to the units and help them succeed. Commissioners visit the units they are assigned at least once a month, to check on the unit and see how they are doing, they also provide any information to that unit on upcoming events. Also provide advice to the units. If you would be interested in serving our district as a unit commissioner please contact me, out units, and scouts can use your leadership.

Just a reminder a lot of leaders Youth Protection are expiring soon, please have your leaders check their youth protection dates, this will also help your unit come Recharter time. I also have a list of every units leaders training and what training they are still missing or need. Please feel free to contact me to get a copy. I do apologize for such a long email, we have a lot of events coming up and information to put. I want to say Thank You for all who were able to attend Roundtable, I understand a lot of you would have been there if it wasn't for work, or other obligations. I greatly appreciate all you do for scouting and making this a great program for our scouts. Let’s keep striving to be the best District!

Yours in Scouting,
