Venturing Training
Training for Venturing leaders comes in several parts, most of which can be completed in the comfort of your own home, on the internet at olc.scouting.org
Step 1 | This is Scouting
an online workshop that gives you a little history and overview of Scouting as an organization.
Step 2 | Fast Start
Pick the Fast Start that is right for you. This will give you the info you need to get through your first couple of Den meetings. Online at olc.scouting.org
Step 3 | Youth Protection
This is the BSA’s child Abuse recognition and prevention training for all adult volunteers. Learn to recognize the signs of abuse, how to respond when you learn a child is being abused and how to ensure that abuse does not take place at Scout meetings and activities. MANDATORY for all Scouting volunteers. Online at olc.scouting.org
Step 4 | Job Specific Training
A four-five hour workshop lead by experienced Venturing volunteers. Learn the basics of planning and conducting meetings, service projects, activities for your crew and more importantly how to get your crew officers engaged and running their own crew.

Senior Patrol Leader/Crew President Retreat August 20 @ Camp Crooked Creek
This 24 hour leadership and fellowship retreat is open to current SPL’s and Crew Presidents only. No cost event! Starts Friday, August 20, 6:00 pm and ends Saturday, August 21, 6:00 pm at Camp Crooked Creek.

Venturing Leader Specific Training August 28 @ Tunnel Mill Scout Reservation

Are you a Trained Adult leader? Leaders are considered trained and eligible to wear the official trained
emblem recognition once they have completed the basic training requirements for their position.
Venturing Leader Specific Training is part of the basic training requirements for Venturing Leaders.

Wood Badge Fall Course September 24-26 & October 22-24
The most advanced adult leader training available. A Scouter participating in Wood Badge has the opportunity to understand Scouting as a family of interrelated, values-based programs providing age-appropriate activities for youth; recognize contemporary leadership concepts and discover how they are relevant to the Scouting movement; apply the skills learned as a member of a successful working team; and revitalize their commitment to Scouting by sharing in an inspirational experience that provides Scouting with renewed leadership. Venturing Leadership Skills Course September 24-25 @ Tunnel Mill Scout Reservation
Introduction to VLSC will begin at 7:30 pm Friday. Remember, this course is needed for your Silver Award. We should be done by 5:00 on Saturday. Learn how to be a better leader and get the tools to help your crew be more successful. Registration flyer | online registration coming soon!
Powder Horn May 19-21, 2011 & June 2-4, 2011
Powder Horn is a training opportunity designed to expose the Venturing or Boy Scout leader to activities and resources necessary to operate a successful Venturing Ranger Award or Troop High Adventure program in several ways:
- Help Venturing Leaders and Scouters to safely conduct outdoor activities of a fun and challenging nature.
- Provides an introduction to the resources necessary to successfully lead their Venturers and older Boy Scouts through a program of high adventure.
- Familiarizes the Advisor with the Ranger program so that he or she can help the Venturer to meet the requirements of the Ranger Award.
- This course is based on the Venturing Ranger requirements giving participants an exposure to outdoor/high adventure activities.
Powder Horn courses include Ranger Core Requirements, at least Ten Electives, plus additional program development information. For more information on requirements click here.
